Hard Drive Failure

I am getting a message saying "imminent hard drive failure" when I try to boot up my PC.
What is my best option at this point to get anything important off of the drive?
Somebody suggested an "5.25 enclosure" as a way to get my stuff off the old hard drive. I am clueless.
I just ordered a Mac to replace the computer that went bad.

Thanks for any help.

Save your documents and any important files now.. Either to CDs, DVD data disc, external drive, whatever you have..

Since the computer will not boot up, how can I get the data backed up as you suggest?

Thanks

You didn't say it won't boot.. Now we have a different situation..
Can you get it into safe mode? Press F8 while it's booting..

Your friends have the right suggestion.

Buy an external enclosure for the drive. Place the drive in the external enclosure and connect it to your new computer.

Thanks for your help.
Do you think that using the enclosure will work with the Mac, or only with another Windows based system?
