Can not open Office files from Windows Explorer

Question Can not open Office files from Windows Explorer

I am having an issue when trying to open Word and Excel files from Windows Explorer.

When I double click on the file name, I get a message saying the file can't be found.

However, If I try to open the file when in the actual application, it opens with no problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Home.

Office Programs

The application programs must be running in order open the data files for these applications.

Not they don't. If the file associations are correct then the application will open when you double click the file.
You need to check the file association for .xls and /doc files. While in explorer click tools/folder options and the file types tab. Check which file is assiatated with the .xls and .doc file type.
