When iPod is set to automatically sync all music with iTunes (default setting), songs and playlists that are added or deleted from your iTunes Library will also be added or deleted from your iPod when the iPod is connected and synced with iTunes.

If you go to their site there is a troubleshooting step thing and the last choice is to restore it to factory settings. This will erase all songs, pictures, whatever. I've done my ipod shuffle like this a few times.

RE:How to delete all songs at once from iPod
When connecting ur iPod to ur PC, right click on ur iPod and go to ipod icon, right click, go to properties and on the general tab, you can do a disk cleanup, up to and including a reformat of the hard drive of the device, which will delete all the songs and you will start with a blank hard drive, plust ur pc will check for errors and fix ur hard disk if u so choose.
