Microsoft Home and Student, adding Outlook?

I ordered up a new laptop from Dell. I open it to find I did not order the Suite that I wanted - one with Outlook. My question is: can I buy a stand alone version of Outlook '07 and is it compatible with Home and Student Version? Or must I upgrade to the whole Office suite? I went to the Microsoft site, went to the Outlook section, chose the free trial but they would only have me download the office suite, not Outlook on it's own.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this!

There's Outlook Express, which is free.

Outlook is something of an anachronism from the days before web based mail. When email was something office workers did. Is Outlook really necessary, now?

Then there's Thunderbird, which is free and generally regarded as better than Outlook anyway.

I have web based mail - G Mail etc. but I have always liked Outlook. Don't know about 07, but I would like to give it a try.

So again does anyone know if I can purchase Outlook on it's own and if there are compatiblity issues with the suite that I have?

Thanks!
