When you click "Restart" it first shuts down, so the issue is the same. You probably have no problems when it starts or runs.

It's most likely that one or more of the programs you've run during a session are in conflict when trying to shut down. Adobe Acrobat is famous for generating that error.

It's an annoyance, but it won't cause you to lose your stuff.

One way to troubleshoot is to log the programs you normally run during a session (mail, browser, media player, Adobe Acrobat Reader) and the web sites you normally visit (Youtube, MySpace, eBay). Omit one at a time during your next several sessions and see if the problem persists.

That error message should also give you the name of the process/application which caused it. Which one is it?

Red face

I had this message popping up my computer for a while, then it went away by itself. I didn't worry since it didn't affect any functions in the OS or the computer.

My guess is that there was some kind of software conflict that disappeared when one of them got updated.

And, at least with Firefox, you have the option of restoring the previous session rather than losing it when you shut it down.
