NTFS data rescue

Anyone know of free or cheap software for data recovery on a Win XP machine? A friend of mine ran his restore disc not realizing it would wipe all of his data (newbies) and now has lost all of his pictures. I have an old copy of drive rescue but get an error with win xp. Also will a restore disk do a quick or complete format? If it is completely formatted I guess this is all just a waste of time.

think FREE and CHEAP are words the owner might want to avoid now !! haha....pending how precious those photo's are.

luckily NOTHING is ever permantely erased.... it is just how good the "eraser" software program is to see how hard it will be to restore....

i had a old laptop drive die on me 2 yrs ago and really valued my files, templates and movies/digitals..... so i used this service here in NYC that came recommended by a network administrator friend....

they charges me $130 and were able to recover ALL the files... just not the names or in the same place (directory) as before......
no issue for me.....

maybe call them or speak with them to see what they say.... I've used them personally so know they are good/reliable .... AND cheaper than anyone i have seen around ....

Good luck.
