APC Back-UPS Office 500 VA
Yesterday the power went out for maybe one second and came back on.
Instead of running off the UPS the computer and monitor shut off. Received a steady alarm and yellow light (battery running low) for about a minute then the red light (replace battery) came on and the UPS shut down.
Hmmm.....always worked correctly before, why not now? And seeing the power was only off for a second, why didn't it switch back to line power?
I bought the UPS in 01 so the battery is getting old but no low battery warning or anything like that.
Very confusing, any ideas?
Thanks,
Baldwin

You got 7 years out of that battery, so I'd say it did well.
If you are running the powerchute software, it ran a self test every week. If you aren't, then it never tested the battery under load.

OHHH....I didn't know that. No, I didn't run the software because I always turned the computer off when I left and didn't think I needed it. Learn something every day.
I see a new battery is around $54 or I can trade this UPS in for a new one, 550 VA, for $56 with two more outlets. I think I'll go that route.
And I will run the software this time.
Thank you!
