small hard drive
I saved the hard drive from my old laptop and I recovered the important information from it and successfully reformatted the drive.
It is only a 6 gig drive so I don't think it makes much sense to keep it for any kind of back up usage. Should I just go ahead and destroy it and then toss the broken parts?

Yes, if you had any personal or sensitive data on it you'll want to destroy it before getting rid of it. It's a very easy thing to hook up an old drive and recover data (even after it's been formatted).

The drive is history and I did not find any super powerful magnets. Nor did I find any such magnets in the other laptop drive I destroyed a few months ago.
BTW, on another forum I got into an argument with a woman that stated the ONLY way to protect any data was a DOD rewriting program. She insisted that a competent person could recover data even if the discs themselves were broken. Well, the discs I found were quite brittle and broke into hundreds of tiny bits. I don't see how anyone could ever recover data from a hard drive that had been smashed.
