Vista Question

Ok...So I have a computer. Well two computers to tell you the truth. Both run Vista. But...Here's the kicker. I have a Dell Dimension 8100 that has a P4 1.3ghz processor, 1GB of RDRAM, and a GForce FX5500 Video card with 128MB ram... I get an overall computer rating of 3.0..The processor is holding it back. Now... My other computer is a P4 2.53ghz processor, 1.5GB DDR ram, with same GForce FX5500 with 128MB ram...both bought at the same time, both AGP. My 2.53ghz machine only get's a 2.3 overall system rating...Now what would be causing my 2.53ghz system to get a lower rating than my 1.3ghz machine? Both machines also have the same hard drive, both Seagate Barracuda 160GB 7200rpm IDE hard drives. Just currious as to why the lower system rating on the faster system...

Probably the type of RAM? WEI will tell you what would benefit from a change.

From the MS site...."Each hardware component receives an individual subscore. Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore. For example, if the lowest subscore of an individual hardware component is 2.6, then the base score is 2.6. The base score is not an average of the combined subscores."

As gun45 said-- doesn't your memory (ram) under system
show as hurting your better system--time to upgrade.......

Well, cory
Something has to be low...why don't you run it and tell us what the numbers are?
I don't have Vista on this machine, but I'm sure jH could tell us what numbers mean what.

Aero is an overlay to the desktop that adds convenience at a high cost of processing power and speed. The few people I know who are running Vista have disabled it. Basically, it's a memory hog. I'm told it looks pretty, though.

You are right about that--just opening my PC--32% ram
Good thing I have 4 gb
You don't need to add many programs--Willie did a pretty good job of copying
everyones programs---takes time to find & learn them................

Never really cared about WEI myself.

First time I saw it I thought "Well, that's nice Willie".

When I first got this laptop with Vista, it took me almost 2 hours to get it to shut up. Now it does what I want it to and doesn't talk back.

I'm the sort of user that wants my machine to shut up, do what it's told - when it's told, and smile while doing it.

You must have a 32bit system--otherwise that big grin
would be missing--------------
