Wireless network help

Hello all. I just formatted my hard drive on my desktop computer last weekend. I reinstalled everything and now I am trying to get my laptop to get an internet connection from the router I have connected to my desktop. I tried it on my laptop and it says I need the password. So I typed in that password and it didn't work. Its b/c I formatted my hard drive right?? So how do I go about resetting my password. Its recognizing my router when I try to connect on the laptop so that isn't the problem. Is there a stored password that is already there from router company(westell). I have dsl through verizon. I don't really wanna call them b/c last time I was on the phone for about an hour figuring it out!!!
Thanks

No, formatting your harddrive doesn't have anything to do with your router configuration. I take it your desktop is using wired networking and your laptop is using wireless.

Go into your router settings (usually http://192.168.0.1, http://192.168.0.254, http://192.168.1.1, or http://192.168.1.254) using your desktop, and change your wireless encryption (WEP or WPA) key/password to something you know.
