Finger Scanner

So I am looking into a cuple of different laptops, and I have noticed that some have a finger scanner.

Do these have any value? What is it used for.

Do they come with a software that makes them usful, or is it just used for turning it on an off?

The finger scanners are an alternate security measure. It can be used in place of passwords on password-required sites, etc.

Restore from Full Version OS instead of restore cd

I keep getting registry problems and blue screen problems. I have a full legal version of XP that I bought for another computer that was windows 98. I no longer use that machine. Can I install the XP in my machine now over the XP that is already there or will it mess up? Would it replace the missing registry that the machine has to keep finding in a log or file? I know I could use the restore cd that came with the machine but I wanted to avoid losing stuff. Thought thhis might be a fix (installing XP from Xp cd without the reformat). System recovery to an earlier date has no effect as all the dates say they cannot restore to this point. If it is not possible and I need to use the cd restore that came with the machine how do I know what to backup and tell it is the whole thing not just a shortcut?Read More

Windows vista and IE 7.0

We just purchased a new HP computer about 3 weeks ago. It is running the Vista home premium edition with I believe Internet Explorer 7.0. While most of the time the internet works fine there is the occassion where you will be on the internet and a window pops up saying Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and that forces you to shutdown and start over. We are usyually on it for a few hours each day and most times it doesn't do it but once in a while it will do it a couple times over a few hours. Anyone know if this is a common problem with Vista and or IE 7.0 . Also, anyway to correct this? ThanksRead More
