updating old computer
I have an older DELL computer 4600. It seems to run AOK!
I was wondering is there anything I should be doing, as far as keeping it up to date, such as installing newer drivers and all the other stuff I am not qualified to even guess at?
Or do you just run the thing until you think its dead, I was thinking of adding more ram to it, since it only cost around 20 dollars for the unit.
What is the general concensus of trying update and old computer. Would it be better to get new computer?
I do not use the computer for work or any other lifes saving things.
Mostly just cruise the net for ebay, and other sale items and for general information.

If its working ok for your needs, then theres not much reason to mess with it. Sometimes trying to make things better costs a lot of money in the end. I found that out just trying to replace a fan in my old one last month...wound up having to buy a new(old) PC.
Yours has much more Processor speed than mine and I use mine for quite a bit more.
If you know any PC savvy people, it wouldn't hurt to put more memory in and clean out the dust, but thats all I'd do.

You don't need to update anything really. Just keep auto update on and the OS will update itself. If you have special drivers and apps, consult their websites to see if you need updates, otherwise if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Make sure you clean the dust out every 2 months or so. I have the same computer you have and only have a 512mb memory. I am going to upgrade soon to 2.5gb. That is the highest I can go.
Like GUnguy said don't try and do to much. I bought a computer game, found out I didn't have a big enough memory card. So I went and bought one to fit my computer. Found out that it wouldn't run b/c it would draw to much power away from my motherboard and that I would have to update my power supply which I can't.
GOOD LUCK
