need to transfer video tape to computer

I have a Sony TRV 350 camcorder and would like to save video on my laptop to edit and burn onto DVD. I have the imagemixer USB driver installed. Is there anything else I need to make the transfer? Thanks, JB

That camera has a FireWire output (a.k.a. iLink or IEEE1394). Most newer laptops have a firewire spigot that you can connect it to. It's a better way to import video than USB, but USB will work just fine.

Windows Movie Maker is included with XP, usually under Start/Programs/Accessories. Capture the video to the hard drive and output it to a DVD. Be prepared to let the computer run for several hours.

Rick,

Thanks for you reply. I've been told that I need a firewire PCI card. I have a toshiba satelite notebook and also a Sony Vaio desktop. They both have movie maker on them. Can I assume that the firewire card is built in already?

could I use the USB cable instead to transfer the raw footage to my computer? Thanks, JB

Yes, as I said, the USB will work fine, but it will take longer than the iLink.
