Question Splicing 3 lead fan to 2 lead adaptor?

I am thinking of buying a computer fan to replace noisy fans in a light fixture for my aquarium. I saw a cheap 1 on EBay.
It is:
Working voltage: DC12V
Operating current: 0.15A
Fan Speed: ~2500 R.P.M.
Low Noise.

The adapter has output of v 12 a1.25

The fan has 3 leads and the adapter has 2 leads. What do I do with the 3rd lead? Is a grounding lead? Will this truly be quiet?

Had a fan with:
Brushless Design / Sleeve Bearing
25.2 DBA / 45.000 Hrs. MTBF
2000 rpm fan Speed
12V DC / 0.10A / 1.2W

After 1 week it got very noisy. Anybody know why?

The third lead on fans is usually a speed monitor line so if your motherboard supports it, you can monitor it's speed or in some cases control it based on system temp.

If you're hooking it up with a 2 wire connector, just worry about the red and black, and leave the 3rd one disconnected.

I reset the this fan and now it is quiet

Since the output amps of the adapter is 1.25 and the fan is rated .10A will this decrease the lifetime of the fan?

No, the fan will take only the current it needs.
