Internet Explorer stops working

Starting last week, I now get message "internet explorer stopped working" about every 3 mins. When this happens, it locks up the whole computer and I have to wait for the box to give me a message. This is getting to be a pain in the a$$.

What version are you using? Have you had any updates lately? I had that going on a while back and Microsoft kept installing new updates for a few weeks until it was finally fixed!
Haven't had any problems lately.
What I'm saying is, if you don't have automatic updates, then do them manually.

Have you checked for viruses and spyware recently?

What shows up in the Event Viewer logs under the Internet Explorer section? (also check the other sections for errors that happen around the same time as IE locks up).

To get to the Event Viewer, go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools

Or get Firefox. No where near the problems you experience with IE8.

Make sure it isn't Firefox 3.5, 3.5 drops the internet (while IE has no problems) and then can't close properly.

The latest Firefox is 3.0.11. I've never had a problem with Firefox "dropping" the internet. Now my router snoozes sometimes. I just have to kick it and it wakes up.

I use Firefox 3.5 and have never experienced it dropping the internet connection, or being unable to close it.

It is still worthwhile the original poster fixing IE8 though, rather than just ignore a problem and install something else on their computer. I have IE8 on another PC and have not experienced any problems at all with it.
