Angry Slow Computer

I have a dell gx270 desktop computer. It has 1 GB of 333 speed memmory. The speed of the computer is 3.0 Gig. It also has a sata hard drive.Everything seems fine untill i go on e-bay. When changing from one page to another it is super slow. Sometime it takes a minute or more just to change pages. All other sites are fine. I also have road runner cable modem. A couple of my neighbors have 2.4 or 2.8 gig computers with only 512 meg of memory and their computers are faster than mine. I've tried their computers in my house on my cable and they work faster than mine. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried clearing cache? Have you scanned for Trojans and malware? Have you used a registry cleaner? Do you use anti-virus software such as Norton or McAffee that put a heavy load on your computer and can slow it down? You might want to Google for free registry cleaners and malware cleaners. Benn so long since I had to worry about those things I can't give recommendations.

All Ray said, plus Defrag it every 30 days. What are you using for a browser? With Firefox, you can istall Adblock Plus and do away with most of the advertising that are heavy on sites such as ebay and others we won't mention.

not bad on memory

chances are you are infected with malware
of that i am 99% certain

you did not mention if you are direct to the cable modem or behind a router ( hopefully the latter )

as 1 gb is not bad with XP
but 2 Gb is the sweet spot for XP
you can run XP with 512 if the system is stripped with minimal processes running

what i reccomend and install onany system i work on

AVG Free ( grisoft.com)
Spybot Search and Destroy ( safernetworking.com)
AdAware Anniversay Edition (lavasoft.com)
Zone Alarm ( for a firewall if you do not have a router )

all are fully functional
all are free with no nag screen ( except Zone Alarm )
all perform very good
and minimal drag on your system

norton and mcafee are system hogs
deinstalling them alone will speed up your system
