Question Partitioning new hard drive

I'm installing Windows XP on a new hard drive. I wanted to have it partitioned so I got the first part set up. Now I'm not sure how to access the rest of the drive to set it up as a second partition - I know - it would have been smarter to figure that out first.
Can anyone help or direct me to information?
Second question - Old hard drive was infected. Will erasing it make is useable again? I tried reinstalling WIndows XP over the old one. One problem or another kept coming up so I opted for the new drive but I'l like to hang on to the old one if possible. Both hard drives are Western Digital.

Thanks for any help!!

Good site, Ken. MaryP, why would you want to keep an infected hard drive? They are too cheap, and you will never erase everything with standard formattig.
