Wireless Router Firewall

Can I count on my Belkin N Wireless Router for a firewall? Or do I need to add another one? I just removed Zone Alarm because it seems to make my cursor frantic and unusable.

Yes, your router is a firewall, and you won't need an additional one. You must have a Toshiba. My wife's cursor has a mind of its own sometimes.

I have a netgear router, does anyone know if this has a built in firewall? I also frequently download free anti-virus trials but nothing seems to speed my computer up, any advice?
Thanks.

you are covered

if it is a router, then is has a firewall so you are covered
keep in mind some modems from some ISPs have built in firewalls or small 2 to 4 port routers built in, when you get their service, and you can turn them off and use your router for the routing and firewall services.

I was told I didn't need a fire wall with my wireless laptop cause it is already running through a fire wall initially when the signal comes in

2x2, if your signal is coming from a router, then you don't need to use another firewall, just to be clear.

Before you guys discuss if ones firewall is reliable or not.. First, you need to know WHAT IT IS..

It is simply a medium that prevents a connection to your PC via one of its virtual ports.

Windoes has a software firewall builtin, which you can disable
Practically all routers have a firewall, which you can also disable
Most cable / dsl box have a firewall; which you may or may not have access to configure.

How strong is the firewall depends on how difficult it is to go around that system (by corrupting it or overloading it by some other means)

But how many firewalls do you need?!? Unless somebody is intentionally trying to hack your computer to steal your mp3s, or that you're a godzillionare and keep your bank records on your desktop, I don't see the point.

What you should be more concerned about is having strong encryption (TKIP) on your wireless router instead. Because if somebody gets on it, they're practically on your network knocking on your pc; in another words, going thru the "winxp" backdoor instead of your heavily gated "firewalls" in the front. Of course, that is if you have cyber criminals as your neighbors. 99% of the cases are that they just want to use your internet connection instead.
