Antivirus advised for Firefox?

I'm considering switching to Firefox from IE, due to virus problems despite having paid-up antivirus protection. I'm told Firefox is "fairly" immune to viruses, but do you still advise any particular protection, free or fee-based? Do some work better with Firefox than with IE?

AV protects the OS not the browser. However Firefox is safer from malware with the right add-ons. You'd have to use Mac or some flavor of Linux or BSD to be safe from viruses,

AVG Free works great with firefox, as it will scan as you surf web sites for possible hijacks and malware threats
also try firefox portable

Thanks, I've used AVG before, and find it pretty easy to navigate, just wasn't sure how well it would interface with Firefox.
