32 or 64 bit

Hello
I have googled the difference because I see a lot of pcs that are 64 bit.
I do not want my all in one or other discs with software to be incompatible but don't want to be outdated either.
I think 32 bit is still ok for the average pc user.
Please correct me if I'm wrong as I plan on buying a pc soon -mine is getting shaky.
Thank you

You will find 64 bit pc's out there but for the home user, and most office users, a 32 bit pc is fine. In order to take full advantage of the 64 bit operating system you'd need new software and drivers for all your devices. While you can often run these in 32 bit compatibility mode, it will not perform as well as a true 64 bit solution.

I'd stay with 32 bit for now.

It also makes no sense to try to future proof your computer by buying the latest and greatest. Your computer is out of date even before you buy it. It's not like when computers first came out. A lot of 8 and 9 year old computers are running XP just fine.

If you don't think that a reformat and clean install on your current system, and maybe adding some RAM or a bigger hard drive would help then by all means get a new one.

Don't fall for marketing.

Hello
I have been looking like mad for information re: this 32 + 64 bit issue because a lot of the pcs are 64 bit.
Your explanation was right to the point, very comprehensive, and really helped me better understand the issue.
Thanx very much.
P.S. this is still the best forum I have ever used in the past decade or so.
