PATA interface

would a PATA DVD burner work in a computer that uses IDE interface. Looking for DVD burners on auction sites the seller says its IDE but also says its PATA. would it work. I have 2 plugs for IDE cables. 1 black 1 blue on the motherboard. the blue one is empty.

yes it will work

PATA will work

PATA = Parallel ATA interface
IDE drives ause the PATA interface

PATA uses 40 pins or 80 pins
( ground for each 40 pin )

40 pin is limited to Ultra DMA mode 2
80 pin limited to Ultra DMA mode 6

high speed ide drives are also known as Ultra ATA 100
and not referred to by Ultra DMA mode, and thus require the 80 pin cable to reach full speed, otherwise they default to lower Ultra DMA modes

SATA uses 4 pins and is Serial ATA
