Black Screen

In my cool basement, my extra computer that runs Windows 98 and a crt monitor, works fine.
I wanted to know if two extra monitors that I have were in good working order.
I removed the good monitor and plugged in the first spare monitor. The screen remained black and the pc beeped abnormaly. I removed it and plugged in the second extra monitor. It also remained black and the pc beeped abnormally.
Then I removed it and connected my monitor that worked fine. Now it remained black and the pc beeped abnormally.
What could be the problem?
Thank you.

Sounds to me like the video/ graphics card has gone out. If you do not have a video/graphics card then the video/graphics part of your motherboard has quit. First old monitor probably caused the problem.

If it is video card, you probably dislodged it from the PCI slot on the motherboard. Open the case and reseat the card.

Also ... it's never a good idea to change components while the power is on.
