HP Laser Jet 3150 printer does not print

My HP Laser Jet 3150 All In One printer does not print from my computer - Windows XP. It also does not print from the command prompt.
It does print the self test.
Some months ago I had this problem and connected the printer to a spare computer with Windows 98. It worked fine while connected to the older computer. But that video monitor died recently, which caused me to reconnect the printer to my workng computer - Windows XP. The cable should not be the problem because it worked on the older computer.
The error message is " This document failed to print " ( along with the identification of the document ).

Before the pros get here I have to ask did you install the software that came with the printer in the newer computer first?
Did you go to the HP website and download any drivers for the printer? Big jump from 98 to XP so you may need to update the drivers for the printer.

It was working fine with Windows XP

It was working fine on my current pc with Windows XP before I transferred it to the older pc with Windows 98.
Therefore the software should not be a factor.

I would still update the drivers/software. It's worth a shot.

Turn off the printer.
Go into XP's Printers and Faxes.
Remove the printer by righ-clicking on it, click on Delete.
Turn on the printer, wait until it is ready.
Add/reinstall the printer (manually or using the wizard).
Right-click on the (new) printer icon, click on Properties.
Click on Print Test Page, click on OK.

If the printer still does not print, then, it's most probably a physical connection (cable, connectors on PC end, connectors on printer end).

The above's last two steps is the standard test if the PC and printer see each other.
