I.E.8 good idea or no?

Howdy, do not mean to be a pest. Yahoo is recommending an upgrade to I.E. 8. Is this a good idea to do or no? I have heard of lots of bugs in new things from Microsoft, so I wasn't sure if it was safe yet. Thank you much!!!

The question is why? If there is a good reason, maybe. If there is a good reason the next question is do you really need to use Yahoo.

If you like Microsoft to control your computer, yes. If you don't mind crashes, glitches, hang ups, yes. Otherwise, I'd go with Firefox and install AdblockPlus. Firefox doesn't crash, remembers all the tabs you had should you have to shut down after a program install, and AdblockPlus is unsurpassed in keeping your screens clean of ads. This page we are on has absolutely no advertisements on it making it a quicker loading page and less bothersome.

C'mon Chandler, open up and tell us how you really feel.

FWIW, I've been using IE8 since it came out with no problems.

The final version of IE8 has been working just fine for me. There were a few glitches in the Beta version...but that's to be expected. I use FF here and for most of my random surfing...but I also am running IE at the same time. Matter of fact many of the things that FF has, IE also has now. Though AdBlock doesn't work in IE, I'm assuming there is a similar program out there for it.

There are still a couple of places I frequent that are not completely compatible with FF, though they've been saying they will be "soon". Of course they've been saying that for 2 yrs or more...lol.

My wife uses Chrome almost exclusively...and she was a big FF proponent before that.

I'd say if you are using an earlier version of IE and want to stay with an MS product..then yes, you should upgrade. But I'd also try FF and see how you like it.

Are you saying IE 8 isn't ready for Windows 7 ? I am running it, as it is what came with my windows 7 machine. The version is 8.0.7600.16385. My windows 7 is 64 bit.
I also run Firefox version 3.6.3
I have problems with both crashing when playing games on Facebook. I am sure it is a Facebook problem there.
My e-mail provider Verizon has yet to fix the problem of not being able to click on links in the email. That was the reason I got the Firefox was to be able to click links in the email and go to where the mail suggests.
Both browsers are similar in ways. Both had a learning curve for me after running Windows XP and Explorer 7.

Just a guess...but is that a new laptop? If not, I bet it has had the operating system just "upgraded" over the years, never a full wipe and install. So you still have remnants of the original OS which may have been 2000 or ME. Both of those are older than XP, and can cause problems when trying to use many newer programs. In my experience ME was a POS when it came out...

Windows 7 is the latest OS and IE8 is the latest browser...they are completely compatible.

Just tried it again and said the newest version available was Windows 2008 16 bit. The laptop has been used for about 3 months.

that is what it said. According to Yahoo, but I dont always trust them due to erroneus sports stories over the years. The last time I heard 16 bit was for Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis vidoe game systems. As a teen, I was a vidiot.
