Importing MPEG files into Windows Movie Maker
I am trying to import some movie files (MPEG) into Windows Movie Maker and I get the error message:
"MPG cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer"
I have searched google on the above error message and it appears that there are a lot of complaints about the same problem, but it appears that there aren't any clear cut answers....
Anyone have any advice or information that may help?

Can you play them?
I've encountered this message a few times over the years and needed to download the codec from the site where I got the clip

What version of Movie Maker do you have? There's a 2011 version out and maybe that'll solve your problem. Movie Maker 2011

I was running ver 5.1 it on an XP machine. When I downloaded version 2011 to my windows 7 machine... everything works fine now.
Now that I think about it... the posts that I saw in other forums were fairly old (~2008) so maybe the codec issues have gone away with version 2011... hope so!
Thanks for the help.
