Ubuntu Live ?
When I repair computers that fail to boot to Windows for one reason or another, I use an Ubuntu 10.10 live USB thumb drive. Once the system is totally booted into Ubuntu, can I safely remove the thumb drive or does it have to stay in the entire time the computer is running? The only reason I ask is because I usually am fixing laptops, and it's a pain to have to keep the thumb drive in at all times.

Not familiar with Ubuntu but on my flavor of Linux you have the choice to install to RAM. Does Ubuntu? Of course you probably need quiet a bit of RAM. Why not just clone a few more thumb drives?

No it just has "Try Ubuntu, and Install to hard drive". I usually select "Try Ubuntu" so that I can get into the file system and use Remove Desktop to copy any files from the computer to my home file server.
