Let us know if Mike's doesn't work. Wifey downloaded something similar a while back, and I had to go to safe mode, then to add/remove programs in order to get rid of it. Let us know.

Would help if you posted the name of the malware; a lot of that stuff does have removal tools that work so you may have been on the right track. I like Malwarebytes, too.

The name of virus protection that keeps poping up is "system tool" Thanks
The malwarebytes wants to charge me to get rid of the system tool says free but it is not.

Go to safe mode. Go to Control Panel. Click on add/remove programs. Find the program. Delete it. Reboot. If I remember correctly that is the only way you can remove it, because System Tool won't let you get into certain parts that will allow you to remove it. You can do it in safe mode.

system tool and the variants of it

system tool , ill bet like antivirus will not let you download any av soft5ware and tends to redirect towards their site for the "fix"
but common to all types is that they have executeable file that is easy
to stop once you know the name

the one program you can run is windows explorer, booting into safe mode will not run since there are registry entries that make sure it runs on boot, in windows explorer you will have to search the programs and look for systemtool.exe and simply rename it to systemtool.ex1
save
and re boot
once it has stopped, then you can download Malwarerbytes, though keep in mind since you renames the executeable file, Malwarebytes will not see it as threat, so you will have to manually delete the file.

you may find it has a random name

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\<random>\<random>.exe

the registry entry tend to look like this

KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce "<random>"

more info here

Remove System Tool and SystemTool (Uninstall Guide)

as for how you got infected

are you running Firefox web browser wit no script and adblock plug ins? or Internet Explorer

That's a good link Mikerios. Mods may want to consider a sticky, since this problem rears it's ugly head now and again.

i have done a few of these
the trick is to find the executeable
since it blocks everything but windows explorer
