Upgrade to Windows 7

I have Windows Vista premium and my hardrive is partitioned.
Is it ok to format both C drive and D drive (the partition drive) before I install Windows 7.
I never did like the partition drive but thats the way my computer was when purchased.

You can delete the partition and make it just a C drive if you want.

I know I can format it but if i do , will this eliminate the D drive and the partition entirely or will something remain?
And will this action give me more room for C drive use?

The D drive and partition will be gone and any data on it. The C drive will be the whole HDD so yes C drive will have more space.

Generally speaking, upgrading the OS is not as good as a wipe and fresh install of the new OS

Agreed. It's like mopping the floor without sweeping first.

A word on partitions. Picture a hard drive as a big room in your house. If you partition it once and create a D: drive, it's like putting up a wall in the middle of the room effectively making two rooms. two rooms that are in the same main room. when I freshen pc's for people, I start by deleting ALL partitions. then doing a secure format(in the floor analogy it's like scrubbing the living hell out of the floor prior to mopping). then I install the OS clean.
