Any ideas - when using ICQ the system will hang and from the speakers I get a constant "burr" sound. I can't get out of the site, the mouse pointer isn't visible, ctrl, alt, del doesn't work neither does the power switch. The only way to free the machine is to pull the power plug.
Have talked to ICQ and they suggested that I uninstall and re-download which I did but the result was the same.
I am not running any other programs and I am running with two thirds of my drive free and have 64mb of ram.

this is strange , I assume you uninstall from the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall from there, reboot the computer, delete the ICQ directory that is on your drive, sometimes certain files are left after the uninstall. Re-install the program, reboot the computer, try it. Perhaps you have already followed this, I don't know. I assume it worked at some point in time, and you at least appear to have no other problems with any other software or hardware on your system. What have you installed , uninstalled , changed , added in software or hardware between the time it last worked and now ? Hopefully others will have some insight on this.
