That machine has a SATA-1.5 interface, so there's a significant chance that it won't work.

On the other hand, if you can buy an external enclosure to use it in for offline file storage, if it doesn't work in the computer, then it may not be a total waste to try it.

Sorry TWX, but SATA is SATA as far as revision compatibility is concerned. All SATA2/3 drives are backwards compatible with SATA1 - they will simply run at 1.5Gb/s. Where one may run into issues with large drives is the BIOS. However since the laptop in question originally came with a 500gb drive, that won't be an issue using 1TB. The limit here would be 2.5TB.

BIOS was actually why I expected it wouldn't, citing SATA 1.5 was because there weren't as many gigantic drives during the 1.5 era, so it would be more likely that the BIOS wouldn't have been implmenented to address a drive that big.

Same as how one could use a UDMA drive on older IDE interfaces, unless it was bigger than the BIOS would address.

Fair enough, but we are still in the "1.5 era"... They still make them. That computer is only a couple years old.. Its pretty safe to assume that if a computer comes with a 500gb drive and Windows 7 that its BIOS is new enough to support terabyte drives..
