Google says the Chromecast requires IOS 6.0 or better which will not work on Ipad 1. However, the app for IOS says it was developed for IOS 5.1.1 or better. Does that mean the IPad 1 using IOS 5.1.1 will now work?

I've been trying to get clarification of this point since the app was released without success. Hopefully someone on DIY can answer.

 

I understood that Chromecast requires iOS 6.0, but if their app says 5.1.1, that must have been what it was tested and approved against. I know it's different than AirPlay, but the processing required is similar, so may not function well on an iPad 1.

Can you try it and see what happens?

 

Make sure to make a restore folder on your computer before updating. If you have to revert back its a pain in the arse and you need to reformat again. You will lose all your apps and downloads. And its not freindly on re downloading stuff you already bought...

Had same issue with the kids ipod's. had to revert back to 6, but the latest is 7 in beta. The kids did not understand what beta was and downloaded the latest. Wrecked havoc....

 

loaded Chromecast app, then Chrome on iPad1 w/iOS 5.1.1
... warned on download that only older version of Chrome is compatible

Net...
Chrome has no Chromecast extension, so it can't cast
Youtube casts, but
- a new version is needed -- again, newer, but the newest is incompatible.
- when casting, the iPad screen is blanked.
Netflix is the only other app noted as compatible, but it's low priority for me.

Chrome was my main reason for buying, for casting .pdf/doc/ppt/xls files
from iPhone, iPad, & Android mobile devices.
The net value is a lot lower for me w/out iPad1.
