Try each of the following one at a time. If one doesn't work, go to the next thing. Open the task manager so that you can watch the CPU icon, in the tray.
Change the virtual memory to system managed.
Run msconfig, go to the startup tab, disable all, click apply & reboot, click ok again.
When it hangs, does the CPU icon spike?
