2 pc's one 1 display

I have a laptop with a broken display. I would like to plug it into my desktop/monitor without having to pull everything out and switch the monitor cable between the two.

How can I accomplish this?

Unless it's one of the micro laptops it should already have a monitor port. Switching between display and external monitor can be done in Control Panel or there's often a shortcut key on the keyboard.

I think he means to connect/disconnect the monitor, etc.

You can get a KVM switch, Keyboard, Video, and mouse switch. Using a set of shortcut keys you can toggle between your desktop and the laptop without moving ANY cables.

I use this one when I'm building a system: IOGEAR 2 Port MiniView Micro PS 2 KVM Switch with Cables GCS62 0006727925022 | eBay

You can get them for different connections as well, including HDMI or USB.

aandpdan's link is a good one and that cable will definitely work. However if your laptop has a good deal of age to it like for instance with a Dell Latitude D600 all you need is the cable from the monitor. I have done that before myself and it works fine without any extra cables as long as you have a VGA port on the back of the laptop. No sound that way but you can always hook up speakers to the headphone connection on the laptop.
