Desktop Icon

Every time I reboot windows 8.1 I get the icon "Desktop.ini" on my Desktop.

I keep no icons on my Desktop and I wonder why I get this icon and how I can avoid it

Reading further on this subject I understand this file may be important to the system. This may explain why I had some programs working / not working after I deleted the .INI file from my desktop. So I decided for now to uncheck the box (show system hidden files) from the view menu on Explorer.

I prefer to show hidden files. There should still be a copy of it in C:\windows\system32 Don't forget to show hidden files again, if you decide to search for it.
Deleting what was on the desktop shouldn't have had any effect on the system.

I agree with you Pulpo but there are conflicting views on the web if this file creates a problem or not and in my case I did notice some problems although I cant say if they were the result of deleting this file from my desktop.

Most likely I will change back to show hidden files and manage to accept this file on my desktop (for now)
