Can't Select Objects - MS Word 2010

Just as the title says, I cannot select objects in MS Word 2010. I have several circles drawn and want to draw a box around them to select them and simply can't. I click on "Select" in the editing field, then "Select Objects" and I cannot draw a box. Nothing happens. I have Word 2007 on another computer and it works just fine. I'm hoping it's something simple in the Word Options that I can check. I spoke with Microsoft and they want upwards of $100 to fix the problem remotely. No way I'm paying them.

Often this is because something else is in front of the object. If you just click on it, does something else get selected? If so, send that item to the back. Repeat as necessary until you can select the desired object. Hope this helps.

Not sure if this applies to your situation:
I drew 2 circles on an MS word 2010 document.
I clicked on "select" and was able to click on each circle separately, with the shift key pressed, yielding the box around each circle. I then went to "drawing tools", "format" and "group" and clicked on "group", and got the box around both circles.
Hope that this helps. Good luck.

Does the problem exist with all Word docs, in 2010? If you open the same file, in Word 2007, can you draw the circle? If you transfer a file from the machine with Word 2007 to the machine with 2010, can you draw the circle? I'm trying to determine, if it's a permissions problem with the files or if it's a setting in Word.

I understand this article correctly, and your experience, what you are experiencing is just an undocumented feature (lol), also known as a plain old “bug” – lol.

That's not the action I'm referring to. In Word 2007, you can simply left-click, hold the button, and draw a dotted rectangle around multiple objects to multi-select. I cannot do this in Word 2010 for some reason.

Interesting. Inserting a drawing canvass will work for what I'm doing. Thanks!

Sure thing mossman. ( I love the way Microsoft makes bugs sound like they are not bugs, lol, they are great at that.)
