Windows10 Remove Registry Permissions
Is there a new way to remove the annoying registry edit permissions in win10?
I follow the link below and it does not work – I mean I do what the link says and then I do my changes but after reboot my changes are not there

What sort of permission requests are you getting? I have not had any problems with W10 so far, so I want to be forewarned. I have taken Registry changes to be a forbidden territory since I totally trashed one computer doing it.

Administrator account - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
If you are using Win 10 Home, try that ^^ instead. The site that you posted was only giving you partial permissions.

Pulpo what do you mean (….try that ^^ instead)? Where and how?
Chandler, when I want to have full control of a registry key and I select Administrator, the Full control box is greyed out and I can’t click it. Sorry you trashed one computer with the registry but I’m doing registry edit since the XP years and never had any problems. In addition, some customization can only be done thru the registry. For example in win10, if you want to remove from the file explorer the annoying folders above the C:\ (documents, pictures, video, etc.) you can only do it thru the registry.

The ^^ arrows were pointing to the web site above them. Open it & follow the instructions.
Side note: Someone in another forum described Windows 10 as an "unfinished OS". I agree. MS has issued unfinished operating systems before. Then they follow them with service packs & hot fixes.

Sorry I missed the link Pulpo, seems very interesting and I will give it a try tonight.
I aggree, win10 is not only an unfinished OS but also a pile of garbage and more suitabel for mobile devices. I read that MS sold 200 million win10 but did not say how many people are actually using now. Yes I installed it because it was free but after I noticed all the faults and restrictions I remove it

Did not work for me Pulpo, I mean I was able to tick the box "Full Control" to edit the registry keys I wanted but it did not keep my changes. As far as I know win10 has hard coded the keys and I cant change them. Anyway the link you sent is a pretty good one, thanks

Sorry about that. I'm not running Windows 10 yet & when I finally do, it won't be Windows 10 Home. It will at least be Windows 10 Professional or better. I expect to have it in a month or 2. Microsoft considers the average user a total idiot. That's why you are having problems

Sorry Shadeladie, I understand it is confusing. My own laptop now has windows 8.1 and that's the one I had installed win10 and I remove it. My wifes laptop which was purchased recently has win10 and this thread is for her laptop

When I used the command “net user administrator /active:yes” after I was done by mistake I used the same command with no at the end and since I have no other account I was locked out by win10. I re installed win10 and do the configuration again now but it will be sometime before I try the new reg link.
Your idea of going with win10 pro in the future sound good Pulpo and I may do the same if and when I decide to replace my win8.1

You don't have to wait. You can change it to Win 10 Pro right now. Here's how.

I'm confused as to the use of "regedt.exe" and "regedt32.exe" and searching the web the answers are not clear.
Windows 8.1 has both but Windows 10 has only the regedt32.
Which one do we use10?

The above site explains the basic difference.
That means that we have less control over the registry based on the following quote from the same site.
I don't know if that applies to all versions of Windows 10. Did MS want to prevent us from disabling their spyware? There are a lot of hidden scheduled tasks. I have a list somewhere that explains what tasks should be stopped. When I find it, I'll post it.
In the meantime, you can search for disable telemtry in windows 10. It also goes for 7 & 8.

Note Unlike Regedit.exe, Regedt32.exe does not support importing and exporting registration entries (.reg) files.

I had a feeling that the other versions would have it. I would never buy the Home version of any Windows. As I said before, Win 10 can be upgraded to Pro for free.

……I find Win10 (Pro) to be the best OS since XP. I can't think of any reason to use an elevated admin account. What exactly are you trying to change?
Msradell you are lucky but I have different experience. On my laptop when I downloaded the win10 upgrade I was able to edit the registry with no problem at all but in my wife’s Dell laptop which came with win10 pre-installed I can’t edit the registry no matter what I do. By this I mean after I change the permissions and apply the correction I wantn win10 does not keep the corrections.
However after I did a complete system backup on the wife’s laptop, I went and deleted the 6 programs Dell had installed plus all the scheduled task MS has and then I was able to edit the registry to what I wanted. I find it ridiculous that Dell has 6 programs controlling my laptop and MS has so many again without my permission

It's been my experience that Dell machines come with modified operating systems - we've had issues with them sometimes requiring formatting.

All original equipment manufacturers modify the OS. If you format with an OEM CD, you'll have the same thing again. It doesn't matter which brand you use. If you buy a new machine from Dell, you can request that they don't add their "crapware". However, they don't like that term. I don't remember what they call it. Spend the money & buy the retail version, have a clone built or build it yourself.

Dell has one of the best service sites I have seen. Just put you service tag number of your PC and you can see all available downloads specific to your PC and the dates of each download. They also have full service manual including nice pictures on how to remove / install anything related to your PC
Talking about formating the HDD, does anyone knows a good utility to format a HDD including the MBR? When I format the wifes laptop HDD I used the Dell's because it was inside my OS backup I did and I prefer to do it again with a utility not related to any manufacturer.

I used to like Partition Magic until Symantec bought them. There is a free utility called GParted. I'm not recommending it. I'm just saying that it exists. Whatever you use, make sure that it boots from a CD & doesn't depend on a good version of Windows, running on the machine. In other words don't use Partition Commander.

If you look to the left, in the pink section, in the link above, it's the second one down, where it says "download UBCD".
