Black screen after I install hard drive and spend hours reinstalling software

I just installed a hard drive a couple days ago. You may recall the thread I started on this. I spent hours re-installing and downloading software to the PC. I have Windows 7. Everything was going fine. This is what happened last night:

1. blue screen of death
2. restart in safe mode
3. System asks me if I want to repair windows. Didn't work
4. Now it won't boot past black screen.

Cooling fans are working...........no loose connections................monitor works fine when I watch DVD movie...................Did RAM test through Windows didn't detect a problem.

I don't know where to start troubleshooting. This is awful.

Ok. This procedure looks pretty simple. I'll try it tonight when I get home. It looks like this repair feature won't wipe everything I installed.

With the current state of my PC, is there a way I can backup everything I installed and downloaded?

Since it's a new HD, you may have to reset the 1st master in the BIOS to auto or reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

is "Secure boot " enabled in the BIOS and hard drive interface set to ACHI? I forgot to do this several times and get the BSOD

Secure Boot was a terrible idea.

[4. Now it won't boot past black screen.]

One of two things.
First guess is your processor went out.
Second guess is your new hard drive went out.

If you installed it & worked with it downloading software etc... then its installed right & work(ed) right. At that point it wouldn't "boot past black screen" which I am assuming you mean it starts to boot then the screen goes black & wont boot further. That tells me the processor has gone bad & it wont boot much past bios & into windows loading up completely.

If that's not the case, then I say your new hard drive went bad.

That's my .02... hope this helps.

I ran the repair feature off the original Windows 7 install CD and my PC is up and running again.

Now I have a problem with Windows Update. I'll start a new thread,
