Printer Tears Paper

Weird problem. Printer is a an Oki B410 laser (mono). It leaves a 3/8 inch long tear at the top approximately in the center of the page. It does it from both tray and single feed. I have looked and can't find anything. The weird thing is the tear only extends down for 3/8". It seems like if something was sticking up the tear would continue for the whole length from top to bottom.

I've seen tearing and crinkling when there is something wrong with the paper feed/separator mechanism. On my current printer there is a little moving arm that seems to catch and prevent a second sheet from being drawn in. This lever/catch is movable and looks like it retracts during part of the paper feed cycle. Maybe yours is catching for the first 3/8 before retracting or is stuck in the up position and the paper happens to finally get over it after 3/8"

Printers are cheap. Buy new one. $34 to $76 will get you a decent unit.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look again. There is a lever that seems to hang over the feed tray but it also does it from the single page slot feed that is separate and above the tray.
