I am planning to buy the following hardware:
- LCD panel (I have it): LG.Philips LCD LP171WP4-TLB5 Overview - Panelook.com
- Controller board: Geekcreit® V56 Universal LCD TV Controller Driver Board PC/VGA/HDMI/USB Interface Sale - Banggood.com

- Keypad board: Universal 7 Keys V29 V56 V59 TV Switch Keypad Board With Interface Sale - Banggood.com

My knowledge of electronics isn't sufficient to answer you questions. Aside from that, I can see doing it for fun or experience. Beyond that, I wouldn't bother.
