How old is the MB? Are you using 5G wifi or 2.4?

My experience with WiFi is that the chipsets used in the router and wireless adapter (laptop) can make a large difference in the speed. Generally, you'll get good wireless speed if the chipsets (Broadcom, Atheros, Realtek, etc.) are the same in both the router and laptop. FWIW, I have an Intel chipset in my Dell Latitude laptop and a Broadcom wireless chipset in my Linksys EA6700 router. I get 103Mbps with my wireless (5GHz), and 110Mbps wired, so they are virtually the same. Sometimes you can improve the speed by optimizing the wireless adapter settings and/or the router settings.
