Laptop has no audio

Last night I watched a program on Facebook and I hooked up my laptop to my TV. The sound and the picture was fine but now I don't have any audio on the laptop, which is an older one (Dell P13F) I believe I accidently hit a button on the laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Below is a link to a Dell support page with information on how to troubleshoot no sound on your laptop.

As I was experimenting with the sound I found out that even though the sound on the laptop doesn't work it DOES work if I plug my earbuds in.

Maybe there's a setting in your sound properties that's telling it to play thru a headphone only?

I'm guessing you connect to your TV via an HDMI cable.
Some computers don't like when the HDMI gets unplugged.
Try restarting the computer.

Thanks, pj. Yes, I did connect it with an HDMI cable but I restarted the computer twice and no change.

Did you disconnect the HDMI cable ?
Dell P-13F is an M4600.
Looks like a 2011-2012 vintage.
What is the O/S ?

If you right click on the speaker icon in the lower tool tray it should bring up the volume control options.
See if it shows a default sound device.

You might have to log on as administrator, go to Device-Manager and check the history of "sound, video & game controllers" to see if the HDMI connection changed the audio settings.
Make a note of what the sound card drivers are, then I'd go through "roll back" to go back to prior sound.
If that doesn't work, then "uninstall" and then restart the laptop, it should auto-load the correct driver, if it doesn't work, then you'll have to login as administrator and manually update the sound driver BEFORE you connected the HDMI (which is why you make a note of the file name and location).
