Order of Posts

The recent site changes appear to have affected the order that posts appear in a thread. My settings are for "Linear - Latest First" but all the threads are opening with original posts first. Very frustrating to have to scroll to the bottom of threads with many posts (20+) to see the latest and to use Quick Reply.

There's a problem with the order of threads, regardless of what your settings are. Sorry, but they're working on this.
In the meantime, if you pick "New threads", there's a check mark to the left of each thread. If you click on it, it should take you to the latest post. However, you may find it may be more near the beginning of the thread.
I know. Thanks for your patience.

I have been using the check mark as you suggested.

Somehow that did not work here. The numbering now starts in mid-thread on page 1 and the original first 4 posts have become the last 4 numerically on Page 2.

FYI or pass on to whoever is making site revisions.

Thanks.

What's now happening is, "Liked" posts are being bounced to beginning of the thread (and not necessarily the second post) and so the whole thread is being thrown out of whack. This was reported, but will probably not get fixed until next week.

I just encountered that in another thread. It really screws up the train of thought. Maybe a general request to not "Like" posts until it is fixed is in order.

A mod actually just suggested that. Will still have to wait until next week.

Found something similar in this thread: Silicone glue

Post #4 is referring to my post which is post #7 but post #4 doesn't appear to have been a moved "liked" response.

Actually, it is a moved post. If you look at the time, which is 8:53 PM last night, it should be the last post, not the fourth post. It was "liked" by Norm.

FWIW, I have not had any problems with the order of post time wise. I list them in ascending order (first to last). I'll go directly to the last post and then move up if I need to refresh my memory or see what I posted previously.

Norm, so you're seeing CarbideTipped's post as post #7 and not post #4 (in the linked thread that Tolyn posted)?

Aw gee, you're asking me to remember things from just yesterday! lol I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning.
But yes, that is correct.
I get e-mails that direct me to the last post of a thread. And it's always at the end of all the other posts. Or if I browse the "Today's Posts" I'll just click on the last person to post and go directly there. I might scroll up a little to see if any others posted just prior to the last one.

I think you will find that if someone "liked that post" it is at the top or middle of the thread instead of at the end.

I just liked your 12 pm post (#11). See where it ends up.

Edit: It is now #3 in the thread.

Yea you're right.
Not surprising with this forum. They need a whole new rewrite. That won't happen, so we'll just struggle with constant patches and fixes.

So let's just not "like/upvote" anything until it is fixed.

That does seem like the cause of the out of order posts.

I wish they would eliminate the upvote and add a "like /dislike" instead. Often you may not agree with a post but it's not necessary to post as to why. Or more often you agree with the advice and just want to say "yes, that's right".
