MS Office Updates1

Got this yellow band at the top of MS Office I bough back in 2013 (word, excel, PP). Didn’t buy a subscription, I thought at the time I will get the DVD but no, had to go to MS site and they install it. Had no problems since. Now with this yellow band I went to the options and select “no updates” and after it says “This product will not be updated Verion 150.5545.1000” but the yellow band still there. Also noticed that the spell check of a doc is not working because I made mistakes on purpose and it says “…checking complete, good to go”.Searching there are some solutions editing the registry but my registry doesn’t have these entries.

Any idea how to get rid of this annoying message?

Thanks

Don't know the answer but if the solution involves registry edits you can ADD or create the entries they want you to change if they do not exist.

I agree with joed, but a word to the wise; Backup your registry before adding/changing any entries.

Microsoft ended support for that version in April, so this may have been put in place to annoy you enough to upgrade, would be my guess. Can you upload a pic? What is the message you get?

Although I have done it many times before this time I didn’t think to add registry entries so now I did it but the yellow baner is still there. Here are 2 snips of this problem.

The available options under the Update Options Button are:

Enable Updates

View Updates

About Updates

I guess its time to switch permantly to Libre Office and kiss the money I spent to buy Office 2013 goodbuy!

I don't know if this is one of the registry edits you've looked for or not, so just in case:

https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/re...update-banner/

I'm pretty sure this is their way of getting you to upgrade to 365.

Thanks Shadeladie, no I didn’t know about this site “slipstick” and I click on the link to do it for me. After reboot unfortunately it didn’t work either.

I will never take Office 365, if I get fedup with the banner I will switch to LibreOffice which already is installed in my laptop.

As long as it's not interfering with doing anything, I'd just try to get used to it and ignore it.
I have to say, I have 365 and I like it and feel it's worth it. It includes other things like backup for everything on your computer to ICloud, Outlook and Defender. When my laptop died and I got a new one, I only had to sign in to my account and everything was there, just as if it were my old laptop. Was very convenient. Not trying to sell 365 to you lol, but just to let you know it's more than just Office.
