My computer has a constant conenction to the internet through a cable modem. Even after doing a reboot to my computer I can come back 15 to 20 minutes later to find ads all over my desktop. Is there a program I can get that would eliminate this? Thanks

YOu might want to look into zone alarm or black ice defender. sounds like you need to set up a firewall. Not sure how the adds are getting on, unless you have IE open when you leave. also go to http://www.download.com and get popup stopper, its great at keeping them annoying popup windows shut down and out of your hair.

You must have something running that brings these ads in, check what is in your start up folder. I have a cable connection, and have no problem, I do run a firewall but that is not causing your ad problem. You either have something running in the background or have your browser open to a site that is bringing these ads in. If no browser is open, no background program excessing the internet then where could the ads come from ??? My browser is only open when I need it open. There is also a program called startup cop (free) that will check for programs that run automaticly. I would recommend running a firewall (not becasue of ads) for anyone using a always on connection. http://www.zonelabs.com provides a free firewall for personal use.

PentaVolvo, Give http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/te...=51650&b=helpp a try. This works well with dialup and understand it does well with constant connections...Mike
