i don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. i built this system this past spring, it is a tbird 1.2 - abit kt7a raid - 256 mb pc150 ram - 2 ibm 45 gig hd's raid 0 - 32 mb geforce 2 - (old) sb pci512 sound - win 98se. since then i've formatted and reinstalled win 98 about 8 times (no problems just, trying to have the perfect setup ) i now have drive image and have re installed several times with that, always working great. problem- about a week ago i turned on the computer and started burning an audio cd from mp3's (yamaha16x cdrw) about 3/4 of the way through it crashed hard ,i had to press reset. the power light came on and the cd drives lit up but no beep and a black monitor saying no signal input. i pressed reset several more times same thing. the computer sat off for several hours when i turned it on it booted i got to the desktop and it locked up again, reset button, no beep , black screen. reset several times , same thing no beep. this happened for 2 days (safe mode was no better) . the longer it was off the longer it would run, but never more than 1 or 2 minutes. i could boot to a win 98 startup disk no problem. finally i booted with my drive image floppy , it locked up (i did this 3 times). then i formatted the hd. booted to drive image disk and installed everything from my image cd. everytheng looked good, i restarted and got an error message " msgsrv 32 prog. has performed an illegal operation. i pressed details and got rows of 0's. did this several more times, same message. next morning turned on no error but bsod. i formatted again installed windows from windows cd, computer worked good. formatted again booted with drive image floppy's installed everything with my image cd , it worked PERFECTLY for several days . i turned it off working fine . i turned it on next day no beep and black screen reset 6 times finally booted sucessfully and is worked fine for 5 hours then shut down. the comp sat for a couple of days i turned it on same problem. i turned it off and booted with win boot disk, formated and installed win from win disk. i used sisoft sandras burn in wizard for 15 minutes no problems .i shut down and boot to drive image floppy 4 times and every time it locks up when i select the image to restore.i take out di boot disk and try to boot to win, black screen no beep . restart several times finally a sucessful boot. i boot to di floppy again, it works and i sucsessfully load my image with win 98 drivers and programs. i used the computer for 3 hours and restarted several times to test and it worked perfectly. i shut down. next day, today (monday) turn comp on and get no beep and black screen saying no signal input. reset, reset, reset, then it starts to boot gets half way through and i get black screen. turn off, turn on boots, works great for 4 hours now. cpu fan is working and temps are low 30's c and i have run scandisk. also, when i get black screen, reset button resets, but power button does not work, i have to use switch on power supply. any ideas? thanks

ALL YOUR LITTLE GADGETS OVER-LOADED YOUR POWER-SUPPLY,WHICH IN-TURN DAMAGED YOUR MOTHER-BOARD, WHICH IN-TURN DAMAGED YOUR CPU.IT MAYNOT BE ALL THAT BAD .TRY A STRONGER POWER SUPPLY(WATTAGE-WISE)FIRST.AS A PC AND TV TECHNICIAN THIS IS THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO.

Ditto on the Power Supply. You didn't mention CPU but if your using an AMD check out their website. These CPUs suck down a lot of power. At that speed and with your stuff you should be in the 350 to 400 Watt Range.
One other thing, if you want a machine like this to rock move up in OS. Try 2000 or XP. If you want to have some real fun have a dual boot with RedHat on the flip side.
