Reloading 'upgraded' programs

I've had several occurances that required reformating and reloading my hard drive. This is a big enough pain, but going back and downloading all the upgrades to various programs is even bigger. Any clue on how to accomplish this faster would be appreciated. (I have a CD-RW drive)

Any software upgrade you get from the net, burn them onto cd, this way you don't have to download the upgrades/ updates all over again.
