Slow mouse response on single click

Hi,

I just got a new HP pavilion P4 with Windows XP Home, and a USB-optical mouse.

I am used to working fast in CAD software. But with this new mouse, If I click on an icon to change tools, it doesn't 'take' unless I make sure that I leave the mouse on the icon until it is fully activated. This has become very noticable compared to my old computer. There's nothing faulty about it, it just has a slightly slower single click response. Is it the mouse itself? or is there a setting somewhere for single click response? The mouse thing in control panel only has double click settings.

Have you ever heard of anyone griping about this with certain mice?

Any help is appreciated

Mike
