fullscreen dos app

I have a DOS app that used to run in a window that took up about half the screen and the Win 98 desktop was in the backround. One day I hit a button to maximize (FullScreen) the program. All toolbars and Win 98 stuff was then hidden from view. How do you switch back to the smaller version as I see no icons or way back.
