HP Laserjet III

HP Laserjet III
My Laserjet III that has given me years of reliable service is on the fritz. When it powers up and after the self test it gives me a blinking "50 SERVICE" error message. And will not allow me to print to it.
The fuser assembly was replaced about six months ago, but it looks like the fuser assembly is not getting hot, like it's supposed to. The manual says the "50 SERVICE" means to bring it in for service, but I would like to avoid that if possible, and fix it myself. Anybody got any clues on where to start?

This came from HPs site
ISSUE: 50 Error or 50 Service Error is displayed on the printer's control panel.
SOLUTION: Turn the printer off for 20 minutes, and then power the printer back on. If the error goes away, continue with normal operation. If the error persists, the printer requires service.
SUMMARY: 50 Error/50 Service Errors are symptoms of a fuser malfunction. They may indicate either an improperly seated fuser or a defective fuser.

Fusers like ink jet cartridges sometimes just don't last due to an error at the plant where they were made. So it could just have died early and I bet it only came with a 90 day warrenty.
If the fuser is badly seated the only fix is to take it out clean anything that looks like a connector and reseat it. Check for evidance of sparking (scorch marks).
If the power supply were bad you wouldn't be seeing the error messages. The only test for a bad supply is to get the specs on it and test every power connector with a multimeter. However, do check for a loose power cable going to the fuser.
Hope it works.
