newsgroup low memory question

How best can one manage newgroup activity to avoid low memory problems?

Just to be contrary.
You could get a DOS newsreader and then you only need 640K.
or
Get Linux and use a command prompt newsreader which only needs about 4MB
or
Get NetBSD and start your own news server on a 386. Then you could get away with 32MB

Basically, news groups are only text files so get a newsreader that is not such a memory hog.

Back when RAM prices were out of reach for us grunt geeks and DOS was the OS for the masses I would agree but.......

My guess is he uses the newsgroups for more than text news, lol
